LITHIUM ION BATTERY modeling and toy market

February 12, 2021   Ulrike Bolsinger General

LITHIUM ION BATTERY modeling and toy market For years, trucks, cars, drones, planes, boats and other devices with so-called LIPO batteries are popular on the modeling- and toy-market. But what does LIPO mean?

LITHIUM ION BATTERY
modeling and toy market

For years, trucks, cars, drones, planes, boats and other devices with so-called LIPO batteries are popular on the modeling- and toy-market. But what does LIPO mean?
The rechargeable devices usually have a lithium-ion-battery integrated, sometimes a replacement battery is also included or can be purchased from the dealer.
Rechargeable batteries are lithium-ion-technology, which also includes lithium-polymer-batteries (LiPo).

Does your modeling heart also burn for the small, all-terrain speedsters?
Then you should ask your dealer whether the rechargeable battery was manufactured according to the valid transport regulations of the United Nations. After all, even a battery integrated in the device must be safe for speedy rides.

Are you yourself a dealer for model making?
Then why not offer your customers security with regard to the included lithium-ion-battery.

When purchasing from the manufacturer, ask whether all lithium cells or -batteries have been manufactured according to a quality management program and have passed the UN test 38.3 of the United Nations.

Why is this important? Lithium cells or -batteries fall under Dangerous Goods Class 9. Passing UN 38.3 test and being manufactured according to a quality management program reduces the risk of fire during the transport and in the customer's home.

Find out what the quality management program is all about here:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/quality-management-program

Which test criteria the UN Test 38.3 contains here:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/un-38.3-test-series

The manufacturers, but also you as a subsequent supplier/shipper are obliged since 01.01.2020 to provide this information on request.
They do not have to be enclosed with the goods and also do not have to be listed on the safety data sheet of the device.
This makes it difficult for you as a dealer, and even more so for the buyer, to find out whether your battery was manufactured in compliance with the regulations.
As a dealer, you often have to persistently ask the manufacturer until you receive the documents.

Refrain from buying goods where this information is not given to you correctly or where you may not receive an answer at all.
Because a transport of lithium-cells and -batteries is forbidden, if these two conditions are not fulfilled.

We at LITHIUM BATTERY SERVICE are glad about every dealer who checks for the benefit and safety of his customers, whether the transport regulations are observed for the lithium battery.

Before you, as a dealer, purchase and import equipment with lithium cells and lithium batteries, you should make a supplier inquiry.
You can download a form of UN38.3 test summary and supplier inquery in our portal for FREE, which includes all the important questions about the lithium cells or -batteries.
You are also welcome to add your logo to our inquery, but our copyright must be left in the footer:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/downloads-guest

After confirmation, please check, if the lithium-cell or -battery also fits to the device and not only general information is given or if you only received a product data sheet.
To help you, we have a checklist on our website under DOWNLOADS, so that you can check the information:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/downloads-guest

Because the commercial language is English, you can ask for English confirmations and do not have to settle for other languages.
If you need to ship or prepare lithium cells and lithium batteries for transportation, we provide checklists for your transportation mode, including returns:

Often the question also arises, what to do with returns of lithium cells and batteries.
Here we provide you with some help:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/private-persons-return-shipments/

And as a retailer, you also have to deal with storage. Here are some hints- Also talk to your insurer how your company building is covered in case of fire due to lithium-cells or -batteries.
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/storage/

Finally, there is the question of disposal- how this works in your country, we have compiled here for you:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/disposal/

And if you are still a beginner in shipping and transporting lithium cells and -batteries, you can watch a video in our portal for free: What's the problem with shipping lithium cells and lithium batteries?

Questions and answers about lithium cells and -batteries here:

We are happy about every company and dealer, if you simply provide your customers with the documents on your website, which you have received from manufacturers of the devices regarding the lithium cells or lithium batteries.
In this way, manufacturers who adhere to the important safety rules will be made transparent and dangerous plagiarism will be more and more suppressed. Your customers will thank you!

We collect such confirmations from manufacturers in our "White List" and make them available to companies. We are also at your disposal for further questions. Please do not hesitate to contact us:
https://www.lithium-batterie-service.de/en/contact/consulting

And if you need further training around shipping and transport preparation of lithium cells and -batteries in road transport, see transport and air transport you will find our training courses here- we also offer in-house training for your company and your employees:
